Whole Harvest Kitchen, a much-anticipated plant-based eatery, has recently opened its doors in Leawood, Johnson County. This opening marks the company’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant, following its beginnings as a meal delivery service in 2018. Located at 4853 W. 117th St., Whole Harvest Kitchen can be found on the east end of the Town Center Plaza shopping center, neighboring vitamin and supplement store GNC.

    Operating Hours and Menu Offerings

Currently, Whole Harvest Kitchen operates from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant’s menu features “whole food” items such as hummus bowls, Mediterranean salads, jackfruit pizzas, and vegetable dumplings. Additionally, sweet treats like chocolate fudge cake, dark chocolate truffles, and “nice cream” (made from bananas) are available, with plans to add grab-and-go offerings like wraps and salads.

Every item on the Whole Harvest menu is plant-based and oil-free, replicating the typical Blue Zone diet. Several ingredients are locally sourced from Kansas and Missouri, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to supporting local producers.

A Personal Journey for the Executive Chef

Will Harris, the executive chef at Whole Harvest Kitchen, has a personal connection to the restaurant’s plant-based focus. After going primarily plant-based, Harris experienced significant improvements in his health, which he attributes to his new diet. His personal favorite menu items at Whole Harvest Kitchen include the sourdough pizzas and the mushroom dishes, such as the K.C. Barbecue Plate with jackfruit and barbecue mushrooms.

    Plans for Expansion

Whole Harvest Kitchen intends to expand with more brick-and-mortar restaurants in Johnson County and across the country. The aim of the restaurant is not to be an explicitly vegan restaurant, but rather a restaurant that serves great food that just happens to be vegan. Harris believes that incorporating plant-based meals into one’s diet once or twice a week can serve as a gateway to healthier eating habits.
